Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th January 2026 —Outline
Consider Luke 6:37 critically. Is Jesus telling us not to correct our brother when he does wrong? Far from that. Jesus is addressing the matter of the heart in this passage. He knows that our hearts’ condition and motive will differ whenever we spot a wrongdoing in a brother’s life. We will correct and restore an erring brother, but Jesus forbids judging or condemning him (see John 12:47). The reality, oftentimes, when we take a “Holier than thou” stance, we end up indulging in “greater sins” (Luke 6:41-42). In the old adage, the kettle calling the pot, black or worse still, the pig calling the cat dirty.
Luke 6:38 may be one of the most widely quoted scriptural passages in our Christian gatherings. But it is mainly quoted in relation to tithes and offerings. It is true that those who are givers will receive God’s blessings (see Proverbs 19:17), however, the context of this discourse is judging and forgiving (Luke 6:37). Judgment and forgiveness are like seeds. You reap multiple of what you sow. If you judge others, you will be judged more severely. Same with forgiving.
And So
Since you will certainly reap whatever you sow, what are you really sowing – condemnation or helping to restore those who are backsliding?
